A Devine day!

Carla Devine was the hat-trick hero as Cliftonville Ladies made Women’s Champions League history with a stunning victory over Mitrovica in Kosovo this afternoon.

After falling behind on the stroke of half-time when Aurora Milliqi broke the deadlock at Zahir Pajaziti Stadium, the Reds’ dream of becoming the first ever Irish League side to win through a round in the competition hung by a thread until Devine levelled six minutes from the end to force extra-time.

The substitute, who had earlier replaced Naomi McLaughlin, was then on hand to put Cliftonville in front and, with Mitrovica desperately searching for an equaliser that would have taken the tie to a penalty shootout, Devine duly completed her hat-trick in the closing minutes to send the Reds through to Saturday’s Group 6 Final against Georgian side Lanchkhuti.
