Avon’t we waited long?

Cliftonville’s victory over Glenavon on Saturday kept the Club’s Heritage Development Officer, Paul Treanor, typically busy.

For, as well as being the Reds’ first Irish Cup success against the Lurgan Blues since February 25, 1939 – four weeks shy of 86 years ago – the contest also represented our 100th home win in the competition.

In addition, Arran Pettifer’s finish to make it 1-0 (pictured) was not only his maiden strike for the Club but was also Cliftonville’s 600th goal against Glenavon and extended a peculiar sequence that has now seen Englishmen on target in each of our last three Irish Cup fixtures, following on from Axel Piesold’s effort against Banbridge Rangers in the previous round and Sam Ashford’s header to equalise in last year’s Final.
