Flying visit
Jim Magilton says a “flying” Glenavon side are a force to be reckoned with in tomorrow’s Clearer Water Irish Cup sixth round tie.
The Reds’ defence of the trophy continues against a Lurgan Blues outfit who report to Solitude on the back of a five-match winning run which, as well as negotiating a tricky Cup date with Dundela, has eradicated the relegation fears that hovered when former Cliftonville boss Paddy McLaughlin was appointed in mid-November.
Anticipating a stern challenge, Magilton says his side must be on top of their game if they are to book a quarter-final slot.
“We’ve all seen the form Glenavon have been in, so they’ll come to Solitude really full of confidence,” he says.
“They are flying, so we must stand up and be counted. We must be better than we were against Linfield last weekend.
“Our goal last week was a good example of the kind of resilience and toughness that you need. We showed great energy and it was a marvellous finish by Joe Gormley.
“It doesn’t matter whether it’s in the League or in the Cup, we want to win every game because every game matters and I know we can expect to be given a real test by Glenavon. They won’t fear coming to us because they’ve been going so very well under Paddy lately.”
