Stripe a pose
With 145 years of history to record, it’s no surprise when Cliftonville’s Heritage Development Officer Paul Treanor happens upon a previously undocumented artefact for the archives.
That’s why he was delighted to recently receive the accompanying almost 100-year-old picture of our Olympic team bedecked in their change kit of black and white stripes outside the Whitehouse at Solitude.
Dating back to the 1930/31 season, the image was very kindly supplied by Julie Murphy, and features her grandfather Burney Reynolds, who briefly played for the Reds’ senior side between August and September 1930 (scoring in both of his first two appearances) before completing the remainder of the campaign with the Reserves.
On behalf of Paul and Cliftonville FC in general, our sincere thanks are extended to Julie for this very welcome addition to the Club’s historic picture gallery.
