Happy campers

Cliftonville Football Club were very pleased to welcome guests from the Happy Days Project to Solitude for Tuesday’s County Antrim Shield victory over Ards.

A hub for young adults with learning disabilities and/or autism, Happy Days is situated in the McSweeney Centre and strives on creating a fun, stimulating and safe environment for everyone to learn new skills and to grow in confidence as well as boosting their self esteem.

Tuesday night’s guests not only enjoyed some pre-match pizza in the Social Club, they were also invited to get their hands on the Irish Cup in the company of Reds players Rory Hale and Odhran Casey as well as local boxing hero Owen O’Neill.

Front row seats in the McAlery Stand allowed everyone to enjoy a more nailbiting occasion than anyone had perhaps anticipated but, as Happy Days Manager Susie Vint explains, the occasion proved one to remember for all involved.

“Everyone had a great time from the beginning to the end,” said Susie. “We were treated like true special VIP guests and we really appreciate it.

“We always strive to ensure our young adults get the same opportunities as others and this was definitely one of them. It was lovely to hear that so many got to experience their first football match together as a group.

“Thank you so much to all involved for your kindness and warm hospitality.”
