County Antrim countdown
Cliftonville Ladies will put their County Antrim Cup crown on the line when they tackle Glentoran Women in tomorrow night’s Final at Blanchflower Stadium.
Having lifted the trophy with a comprehensive victory over Crusaders Strikers in last year’s decider, the Reds’ defence of the silverware began when they were one of three sides handed a bye past the first round of this season’s competition.
The quarter-final presented a testing away date with Lisburn Ladies, who were eventually overcome 2-0 courtesy of late goals from Fi Morgan and Caitlin McGuinness.
McGuinness was also on target when John McGrady’s side got the better of Linfield Ladies by the same scoreline in the semi-final at Midgley Park, where Abbie Magee’s breakthrough strike had set Cliftonville on their way to yet another Final appearance.
Having reached the deciders of the League Cup, County Antrim Cup, All-Island Cup and Irish Cup last season, the Reds have already retained the League Cup this term and, following tomorrow night’s encounter with the Glens, face the same opponents in the last-four of the Irish Cup next month.
Kick-off at Blanchflower Stadium is at 7.30pm, with supporters who are planning to attend the Men’s Sports Direct Premiership fixture with Crusaders earlier in the day encouraged to make it a double header of big match action. Your backing at both games would be hugely appreciated.
