Double hit

Cliftonville 6-2 Institute

Ruaidhri Donnelly and Joe Gormley both claimed doubles as Cliftonville completed their European preparations with a 6-2 victory over Institute at Solitude this afternoon.

Ryan Curran and Sean Stewart were also on target against the Championship outfit, who had battled from behind to lead at one stage during an entertaining first-half.

Donnelly opened the scoring with a firm header from Shea Kearney’s delivery but, after Stephen McGuinness’ own goal had drawn Stute level, the visitors edged ahead when Dan Doran supplied the telling touch after a corner kick had led to something of a goalmouth scramble.

Donnelly’s near post finish from another Kearney cross made it 2-2 before the break, with Curran nodding shortly after the restart to put the Reds back in front.

Stewart lashed home a free-kick to put Cliftonville 4-2 in front and, after Ryan Corrigan had nipped round the goalkeeper to tee Gormley up for the hosts’ fifth, Gormley went on to complete the scoring with a trademark lobbed finish.
