Down to a Finne art

Toni-Leigh Finnegan insists Cliftonville Ladies’ familiarity with Lisburn Ladies will ensure there is no underestimation of their opponents this evening.

The sides Sports’ Direct Women’s Premiership encounter at Bluebell Stadium comes less than a fortnight after a closely-fought County Antrim Cup clash at the same venue and Finnegan says that she and her team-mates are fully prepared for what lies in store.

“We know Lisburn Ladies are a good side and a hard side to break down,” she explains.

“They like to sit deep and make it difficult for us. They’re a side that are improving every time we play them, so no doubt they’ll be up for it.”

Tonight’s tussle will see the Reds bid to maintain a 100% record that sees them level at the top of the Premiership with fellow perfectionists Glentoran Women and Lisburn Rangers, who meet at Crewe Park, and Finnegan believes the heightened competition levels can only be good for the game as a whole.

“The Women’s Premiership is getting bigger and more competitive every year,” she adds.

“The teams are getting stronger and getting more support, which is good to see.”
