Tricky treble

Mid Ulster Ladies 0-14 Cliftonville Ladies

Three players celebrated hat-tricks as Cliftonville Ladies produced an emphatic display against Mid Ulster Ladies in Cookstown this evening.

Kirsty McGuinness – who scored four times – Claire Shaw and Marissa Callaghan all laid claim to a share of the matchball on a night that also saw Toni-Leigh Finnegan hit a double alongside single strikes from Louise McDaniel and Danielle Maxwell.

The opener took 24 minutes to arrive; McGuinness (pictured) finishing coolly after being put through on goal before two finishes inside a minute from Shaw saw the Reds move 3-0 ahead.

A Callaghan brace extended Cliftonville’s advantage to five before the break and the second period was just four minutes old by the time she became the first player of the night to complete a treble.

Shaw followed soon later with the team’s seventh and McGuinness claimed her second of the game just past the hour before Finnegan opened her own account.

McGuinness’ hat-trick strike came on 71 minutes, with McDaniel and Maxwell getting on the scoresheet ahead of Finnegan netting the Reds’ 13th in the closing exchanges – but there was still just enough time left for opening scorer McGuinness to round things off with another in injury-time.
