Well ready
Danielle Maxwell says Cliftonville Ladies are “buzzing” to resume the defence of their Sports Direct Women’s Premiership title when they host Derry City Women this evening.
Commitments in the Avenir Sports All-Island Cup, Women’s Premiership League Cup, Electric Ireland Women’s Challenge Cup and County Antrim Cup – which the Reds won on Monday evening – mean John McGrady’s side have contested just one League match in the last eight weeks.
Maxwell is aware that the pressure-free mindset that accompanies Derry’s position in the table makes the Candystripes a dangerous proposition at Solitude tonight – but she’s confident that she and her team-mates can deliver a performance worthy of three valuable points.
“Derry are a difficult team to break down,” she explains.
“We can take nothing for granted going into any game in the League. Winning the County Antrim Cup with such a solid performance can only give us more confidence going into this game.
“It’s been a while since we’ve played in the League, so we are buzzing to get back to it.”
