No Aar of superiority
Aaron Traynor admits Queen’s Park are one of the strongest sides Cliftonville could have drawn in the SPFL Trust Trophy, but insists nobody in the camp is shying away from the challenge presented by tomorrow’s third round tie.
The Glasgow outfit sit just a point off the top of the Scottish Championship table and, with both teams above them – Partick Thistle and Ayr United- having already been eliminated from the competition,Traynor – who could be in line for a home debut after joining the Reds on Transfer Deadline Day – anticipates a stirring occasion.
“They’re probably one of the toughest teams we could have got,” says the 32-year-old defender, who enjoyed a taste of the competition when Coleraine tackled Formartine United and Connah’s Quay Nomads back in 2018.
“With the Manager they have in Owen Coyle, they’ve gone full-time and some of the players that they’ve signed; it looks like they’re pushing to get promotion. They’ll probably be as strong a team as any that we could have drawn.
“It should set it up even more for hopefully a good crowd on Sunday, a good turnout and hopefully we can do the business on the pitch.”
You can read the full Traynor interview in tomorrow’s edition of our Matchday Magazine, which will be on sale at Solitude for £3.
Carrying pre-match views from the Manager’s Office, The Red Eye’s fourth issue of the campaign also reflects on the historic links between the Clubs and includes a free copy of the programme from the Spiders’ last visit.
Our Matchday Magazine attained a top-three position in the NI Football Programme Collectors’ last eight annual awards polls – assuming the runners-up position on six of those occasions – so, if you’re not a regular reader, why not take a look at what you’ve been missing out on?
