Reds keep their Coates on

Cliftonville Football Club are very pleased to announce that Colin Coates has signed a new contract.

The 36-year-old central defender, who joined the Reds last summer following a spell with Glenavon, made 20 appearances for the Club during the 2021/22 season, scoring three goals.

Formerly with Crusaders, the six-times capped Northern Ireland international – who was voted April’s Player of the Month by supporters – impressed with a string of commanding displays as Cliftonville enjoyed League Cup success and European qualification courtesy of a runners-up position in the Danske Bank Premiership.

Confirming the news of Coates’ new deal, Reds Chairman Paul McKeown commented: “I’m personally very pleased that Colin will be with us next season and I’m sure our fans will be as well.

“Everybody saw what he brought to our squad over the past year, not just in terms of his experience and guidance off the pitch, but his performances on it, too. I’m looking forward to seeing more of the same next season and I know Colin is equally as pleased to have signed up at Solitude again.”
