Jamie McDonagh’s curling strike in Cliftonville’s victory over Coleraine in the quarter-finals of the Samuel Gelston’s Whiskey Irish Cup has today been named March’s Goal of the Month by the NI Football Writers’ Association.

The winger, who also netted January’s Goal of the Month, picked up possession from Ronan Doherty before sweeping in an unstoppable effort from distance to complete the Reds’ turnaround.

The finish will now be automatically shortlisted for Goal of the Season at the NI Football Awards at the end of the campaign, when McDonagh will also face competition from October’s winner Ryan Curran and, of course, his own volley in January’s 2-2 draw with Ballymena United.
