Staying in good Nich

Luke McNicholas insists that no amount of solid preparation can entirely eradicate the element of chance from impacting upon a game.

Ahead of tomorrow’s Danske Bank Premiership encounter with Carrick Rangers at Solitude, the 21-year-old has underlined the importance of marrying hard work on the training ground with complete application across the board on matchday.

“You have to take every game the way it comes, you never know how you’re going to show up and the way the opposition play,” he explains.

“We do our research into the teams but anything can happen on the day and we just have to prepare like we always do and hopefully it goes to plan.”

You can read the full McNicholas interview in tomorrow’s edition of our Matchday Magazine, which will be on sale at Solitude for £3.

Featuring pre-match views from the Manager’s Office, The Red Eye’s 15th issue of the campaign looks at Carrick’s impressive results this term and steps 135, 67 and 22 years back down memory lane – plus plenty more besides.

Our Matchday Magazine attained a top-three position in the NI Football Programme Collectors’ last eight annual awards polls – assuming the runners-up position on six of those occasions – so, if you’re not a regular reader, why not take a look at what you’ve been missing out on?
