Spirited away

Joe Gormley says team spirit has fuelled Cliftonville’s bright start to the season.

The Reds will bid to maintain their fine form when they host Dungannon Swifts in the Danske Bank Premiership tomorrow and Gormley, who has once again been firmly among the goals this term, has paid credit to the players around him for the roles they’ve played in getting points on the board.

“It’s been a great season so far – Jamie McDonagh is putting great balls into the box and the whole team is unreal,” says the 31-year-old.

“The quality of the team from defence to midfield is outstanding and you’ve got Ryan Curran playing alongside me and Paul O’Neill is chomping at the bit to get in.

“The team is incredible and we’ve a great team spirit there and all we can do is keep chomping away and see where it takes us.”

You can read the full Gormley interview in tomorrow’s edition of our Matchday Magazine, which will be on sale at Solitude for £3.

Featuring pre-match views from the Manager’s Office, The Red Eye’s 11th issue of the campaign reflects on the Swifts’ search for consistency and steps 22, 45 and 141 years years back down memory lane – plus plenty more besides.

Our Matchday Magazine attained a top-three position in the NI Football Programme Collectors’ last eight annual awards polls – assuming the runners-up position on six of those occasions – so, if you’re not a regular reader, why not take a look at what you’ve been missing out on?
