Four warning

Cliftonville Ladies 0-4 Glentoran Women

Cliftonville Ladies suffered a painful defeat in this evening’s Danske Bank Women’s Premiership encounter with Glentoran Women at Solitude.

Though they still have two games in hand over their title rivals, the Reds now find themselves four points behind the defending Champions, who took an early lead through Lauren Wade’s free-kick.

After the break, Kelly Bailie made it 2-0 before Nadene Caldwell extended the visitors’ lead further.

Glentoran then missed two penalties in quick succession; Caldwell blasting over the bar after being fell by Yasmin White, while a handball offence by Megan Moran resulted in another spot-kick – one that was this time saved by Rachel Norney. Referee Gareth Stewart, however, ruled that Marissa Callaghan had infringed by stepping inside the box before the ball was struck and ordered a re-take, which Jessica Foy stepped up to convert.

Cliftonville: Norney, Burrows, Moran, Morgan (White), Finnegan (Caldwell), McDaniel, C McGuinness, K McGuinness, Callaghan, McHenry (McConnell), Weatherall. Unused subs: Davis, Montgomery.
