Paddy’s the write choice

Congratulations to Paddy McLaughlin, who has this morning been named February’s Manager of the Month by the NI Football Writers’ Association.

No team picked up more Danske Bank Premiership points during the month than the 14 amassed by the Reds, whose tally would have been even greater but for last-minute goals conceded to Glentoran and Portadown on consecutive Saturdays.

McLaughlin, who collected his first managerial accolade from NIFWA Chairman Stuart McKinley, has credited his players for their efforts during a demanding schedule and hopes for more of the same as the season continues.

“I appreciate getting the nod from the Football Writers as there are several teams who were in top form in February,” he says.

“Earlier in the month, we lost to Glentoran with the last kick of the game. Thankfully, the boys responded well to that disappointment and went on to claim four wins and a draw from the next five games.

“It was an important period of the season for us as we were in danger of being left behind. Thankfully, we have clawed back a few points on teams above us. But now we need to prove ourselves by carrying this good form into March and April.”
