Pressing play

Paul O’Neill is expecting a stern test when Cliftonville host Larne tomorrow, but the January recruit believes he and his new team-mates will approach the challenge with confidence.

With two goals to his name already, O’Neill has certainly hit the ground running in his new surroundings and believes that getting more minutes under his belt is key to developing a greater on-field rapport with the players around him.

“The more I play, the better I’ll get with the rest of the players,” says the reigning Young Footballer of the Year.

“Ryan Curran and myself are building up a good relationship now and a good understanding. Moving forward, if we can keep that up then it’s going to start moving us up the table and we’re going to start winning more games.

“Larne like to get the ball down and pop it about and play good football, we know they’re going to do that but we can do the same. Since I’ve came in here, I’ve noticed the quality within the side. We can get the ball down and play football and it’s always a good way to play.”

You can read the full O’Neill interview in tomorrow’s digital edition of The Red Eye, which will be available here on cliftonvillefc.net ahead of kick-off.

Featuring pre-match views from the Manager’s Office, The Red Eye’s 14th issue of the campaign carries all the stats behind the Reds’ recent form and a look at how the Invermen are back on track following a tricky January – plus plenty more besides.
