A Swift ending

Clare Carson was on the scoresheet as Cliftonville Ladies ended the Danske Bank Women’s Premiership season with a 3-1 defeat to Sion Swifts Ladies.

After falling behind early on when Teegan Lynch broke the deadlock at The Melvin Sports Compex, Carson (pictured) levelled the scores ahead of both Toni-Leigh Finnegan and Carson sending efforts off target.

The Swifts would restore their advantage through Kirsty McGuinness before Finnegan saw an effort come back off the crossbar, while Marissa Callaghan would go close with a cross that almost drifted in ahead of the interval.

Callaghan would become the second Cliftonville player of the night to be denied by the woodwork when she struck the post but the visitors’ hopes of salvaging anything from the contest were put to bed when McGuinness made it 3-1 with her second of the night.

With their League campaign now concluded, the Reds’ focus now shifts to the Electric Ireland Irish Cup quarter-final date with Linfield Ladies on January 21.
