Medal detectors
The County Antrim Shield continued its community tour this week when it paid a visit to Holy Cross Boys’ Primary School – where it was reacquainted with two previous winners.
The silverware, won in dramatic style when Cliftonville defeated Ballymena United with two injury-time goals in the Windsor Park decider a few weeks ago, was brought to the North Belfast school by former pupil Joe Gormley, who quickly found he was not the only one with a Shield medal in his collection.
Teacher and former Reds defender Tony Kane may have been an unused sub for Ballymena in last month’s encounter, but he did help the Sky Blues land the trophy in both 2012 and 2016, while Eamonn Hawkins (middle) was part of the Newry Town side that overcame United in the 1987/88 Final.
