On the Case

Odhran Casey hit a late winner as Cliftonville Olympic moved three points clear at the top of the Premiership Development League with a 2-1 victory over Glenavon Reserves at Mourneview Park this afternoon.

Conor Scannell set them on their way with a volleyed opener after 11 minutes of a scrappy game that saw the hosts register an equaliser just past the hour.

Just as the Lurgan Blues were threatening to get on top, though, the Reds made sure of victory when Casey got on the end of a free-kick to find the net with just four minutes left on the clock.

There was still time for Glenavon to threaten another leveller, with the Olympic – who hold two games in hand over second-placed Crusaders Reserves – grateful to goalkeeper Declan Breen for the last-gasp save that preserved victory.
