He who Ders

Cliftonville Football Club are delighted to announce that agreement has been reached with Derry City for the transfer of Conor McDermott.

The marauding full-back, who initially joined on loan from the Candystripes in June, has made a big impression with the Red Army during his 25 appearances so far this season and will formally move to the Club in January on a deal that will keep him at Solitude until the summer of 2023.

The 22-year-old opened his scoring account for Cliftonville in the summer’s Europa League victory over Barry Town United, while his most recent strike – an outrageous effort in the 4-0 Danske Bank Premiership defeat of Warrenpoint Town four weeks ago – has today been named November’s Goal of the Month by the NI Football Writers’ Association.

After taking possession just inside the Reds’ half, McDermott nonchanantly flicked the ball over the head of Town skipper Alan O’Sullivan before unleashing a sensational long-range chip beyond goalkeeper Berraat Turker.

You can watch Conor’s incredible solo effort – which will now be automatically shortlisted for Goal of the Season – here safe in the knowledge that we’ll be seeing him in a Red shirt for years to come.
