Cliftonville Strollers made comfortable passage to the quarter-finals of the Harry Cavan Youth Cup with an emphatic 9-0 victory over St Oliver Plunkett Under 18s last night.
Calvin McCurry opened the scoring on 11 minutes after being teed up by Lee O’Brien ahead of Peter McKiernan doubling the Wee Reds’ advantage soon later.
Another McKiernan strike – a cool lob over the keeper – made it 3-0, with Bailey Carroll converting from McCurry’s pass to further underline the Strollers’ first-half dominance.
Early in the second period, Mark Donnelly netted the fifth and, after O’Brien’s free-kick came back off the post, Odhran Casey was on hand to finish it off.
McCurry sealed his second on the hour mark before Paul Scullion’s brace wrapped things up.
