Calvin’s perfect night

Calvin McCurry rattled home a perfect hat-trick as Cliftonville Olympic returned to the top of the Premiership Development League with a commanding 7-0 victory over Larne Olympic at Solitude last night.

Donal Rocks started the goalfest when he found the net after 17 minutes before Calvin McCurry headed home a Padraig Slane cross to double the hosts’ advantage just two minutes later.

It wasn’t long before Peter McKiernan added number three ahead of McCurry seizing on Rocks’ throughball to produce a left-footed finish.

Slane then teed Ronan Wilson up for the fifth, with McCurry completing his treble on the stroke of half-time with a right-footed strike following good work from Dylan Snodden.

Six goals to the good at the break, Brendan Lynch’s side added one further strike to their tally after the break when Paul Scullion got his name on the scoresheet with a strike that was crucial to lifting the Olympic back to the top of the table on goal difference ahead of a Crusaders Reserves side that has played two games more.
