Double trouble from Maguire

Thomas Maguire netted twice as Cliftonville Olympic maintained their unbeaten record in the Premiership Development League with a 3-2 victory over Ballymena United Reserves at Solitude this evening.

The Reds  fell behind in the first-half but levelled almost instantly when Donal Rocks supplied the pass for Maguire to convert.

Brendan Lynch’s side pulled in front shortly before the interval when, following a foul on Rocks, Calvin McCurry saw his penalty saved only for Maguire to follow up with the finish.

Despite creating a host of chances to extend their lead after the break, the Olympic were pegged back when United equalised with just over 20 minutes remaining.

Undeterred, the Reds stuck to their task and were rewarded two minutes from time when Mark Donnelly bagged the winner after Odhran Casey had flicked Padraig Slane’s free-kick delivery on.
