Goalden Brown
On a day when the senior side claimed a last-gasp victory over Glentoran, Cliftonville Olympic provided some dramatics of their own when Sean Brown netted late on in yesterday’s defeat of Institute Reserves.
A young Reds side, who took to the field without a single player over the age of 18, found themselves 2-0 down at half-time against an experienced Stute outfit, whose advantage would have been greater were it not for a penalty save from visiting keeper Ruadhán McKenna.
Paul Scullion pulled one back for the Olympic early in the second period with a fine finish after some eye-catching build-up and another smart move ended with 15-year-old substitute Brown making it 2-2.
Institute responded well, however, and restored their advantage only for Scullion’s delicate dink over the keeper to draw the Reds level ahead of super sub Brown having the decisive say when he blasted home five minutes from time to earn the hard-working Reds a deserved 4-3 triumph.
