Let’s break our Duck: McGovern

Jaimie McGovern says the onus is on Cliftonville to break Ballinamallard United down when the sides lock horns  tomorrow.

After registering a 95th minute winner when the Fermanagh men last visited Solitude, the Reds suffered defeat at Ferney Park earlier this year before being held to a disappointing draw at the same venue back in August – and McGovern expects another testing afternoon.

“They will come to frustrate us,” says the 28-year-old.

“They’ll be looking a reaction after conceding six last week against Linfield, they’ll shut up shop and be hard to break down, so it’s up to us to find a way to break them down.

“We’ve started to click into gear and we’re on a decent run of form. Confidence is high all over the team, in defence we’ve started to pick up a few clean sheets of late and our strikers are scoring.”

You can read the full McGovern interview in tomorrow’s edition of our Matchday Magazine, which will be on sale at Solitude for £2.50.

Alongside boss Gray’s pre-game views, The Red Eye’s 12th issue of the campaign reviews the Mallards’ season to date, delivers the latest addition to your player poster collection and turns the clock back 14, 50 and 101 years – plus plenty more besides.

Our Matchday Magazine has attained a top-three position in the NI Football Programme Collectors’ annual awards poll for the last six seasons so, if you’re not a regular reader, why not take a look at what you’ve been missing out on?
