Raring to Geo

George McMullan will be just one of the Club legends returning to Solitude when Cliftonville line-out for Ryan Catney’s Testimonial on Saturday.

Former skipper McMullan will be part of Tommy Breslin’s Irish League XI when supporters are invited to pay tribute to Catney as he departs following 12 years of dedicated service.

Alongside a sprinkling of players who were never fortunate enough to feature for the Reds during their careers, Breslin’s squad consists predominantly of members of Cliftonville’s back-to-back title-winning sides of 2013 and 2014, including Marc Smyth, Ronan Scannell, Barry Holland, Martin Donnelly, Ciaran Caldwell, Diarmuid O’Carroll and, of course, Catney’s ex-central midfield partner Barry Johnston.

Fra Murphy and Kieran O’Connor will also be among the former Solitude favourites rolling back the years as part of a special day that, in addition to bringing the curtain down on the 2018/19 campaign, will see Catney – who made 396 appearances for the Reds and signs off as the Club’s most capped European performer – pull on a Cliftonville shirt for the final time, with all supporters invited to come along and play their part in what promises to be a memorable event.
