Boycie offers thanks

Jim Boyce has expressed deep gratitude to everyone who supported the recent gala reception celebrating his incredible 75-year association with Cliftonville FC.

The sold-out event at Belfast’s Stormont Hotel raised a staggering £10,100 for Alzheimer’s Society NI.

“The evening was a great success and I was very touched by all the tributes and messages I received from all over the world,” said Jim, who currently represents the Reds in his official capacity of Club Patron.

“It brought back so many great memories and I really want to thank everyone in attendance and all who were involved in putting the night together.

“The big thing for me was raising money for the Alzheimer’s Society and I was delighted to be able to make them a presentation for £10,100.”

Formerly a ball boy at Solitude, Jim rose through the ranks to become Chairman of the Club – the highlight of which was undoubtedly the Reds’ against-all-odds Premier League title triumph in 1998 – and also served as President of the Irish Football Association as well as being elected as Vice-President of FIFA, with neither role tempting him into the comfy seats away from his traditional vantage point on the perimeter wall near the home dugout.

The story of Jim’s life in football has been committed to print in a book that is currently available in-store at The Reds Shop at a cost of £8 and, in addition to coming with a complimentary brochure from last month’s event, will likewise benefit Alzheimer’s Society NI with its proceeds.
