Derby Day tributes
Ahead of kick-off in this afternoon’s North Belfast Derby, all associated with Cliftonville FC will pause to remember and honour one of our own, lifelong Red Joe McLaughlin, who sadly passed away earlier this week.
Joe first fell in love with Cliftonville as a young boy, attending matches at Solitude alongside his father Joseph more than 45 years ago. In true Reds tradition, he proudly passed that passion down to his own children – Joe, Caitlin and Conor – who remain devoted supporters, cheering on the team week in, week out.
We are delighted that members of Joe’s family, including his wife Cathy, will be in attendance at today’s game to join us in paying tribute.
Before kick-off, we will celebrate Joe’s unwavering dedication to the Red Army with a minute’s applause.
This has also been an incredibly difficult week for our North Belfast neighbours, Crusaders, following the sudden passing of their much-loved Safety Officer and lifelong supporter, John Alexander, affectionately known as ‘Burger Man’.
John, a true stalwart of Seaview, will also be remembered during today’s minute’s applause.
To the families of both Joe and John, everyone at Cliftonville FC extends our deepest sympathies.
We are grateful for the immense contributions these two remarkable men made to their respective Clubs over many years, and their legacies will live on in the hearts of all who knew them.
Rest in peace, Joe and John.
