Let’s Carri focus: Jim

Jim Magilton says Cliftonville’s mental approach is key to tomorrow’s Sports Direct Premiership encounter with Carrick Rangers.

The Reds travel to Taylors Avenue to take on a side that has yet to taste defeat in either League or Cup this season and which sits second in the table having dropped just two points so far.

Having registered their first win of the campaign when they overcame Glenavon last weekend, Cliftonville enjoyed midweek North Belfast Derby success against Crusaders and will strive to make it three in a row when they lock horns with the Gers.

“This is another really difficult place to go,” said Magilton.

“Carrick are flying after their start to the season and their confidence is sky high, but it’s a game that you have to look forward to.

“You need to get the mental side of it right and actually just try and focus on ourselves and on the performance we want to produce. As I’ve said before, it’s never who we play, it’s how we play, and that all comes down to our mental approach and attitude to each game.

“Credit to Stephen Baxter and credit to his team, they have had a really fantastic start to the season and they’re a team packed with all the experience and knowhow in the world.”
