Sharing Conor McDermott’s story

Cliftonville Football Club stands in solidarity with Conor McDermott following his brave decision to open up about his recent rehabilitation from a gambling addiction.

Conor completed a 10-month absence from football when he featured in the Reds’ Danske Bank Premiership victory over Warrenpoint Town on November 13 and, having since appeared in fixtures against Linfield, Coleraine and Larne, is looking forward to returning to Solitude this weekend, when he will no doubt receive further support and well-wishes from a fanbase that has made clear its affection to him over the last number of weeks on the road.

In a two-part interview with the Derry Journal, the 24-year-old spoke about the toll his addiction had on family life and explained to Simon Collins how the assistance of the Cenacolo Community – who authorised residential treatment in Knock and Italy – helped him find personal fulfillment and a new enthusiasm for football.
