Draped in history
Celebrating our history with a modern twist on a classic look, Cliftonville Football Club are delighted to unveil a brand new retro-style shirt that spans three centuries of influence.
Available both online and from The Reds Shop, which is open at Solitude from 9am-1pm today before resuming matchday operations at 2pm ahead of the Sports Direct Premiership clash with Coleraine, jerseys come in both long-sleeve and short-sleeve, and are today released in celebration of John McCredy McAlery’s pioneering vision.
Four days on from the 145th anniversary of the establishment of the Irish Football Association, which McAlery was a driving force behind, and in the approach to 100 years since our founding father’s death, these limited edition shirts fuse the old with the new and draw inspiration from iconic shirts of yesteryear.
Though Cliftonville first bore a shamrock on their jerseys way back in 1887, it was not until as recently as 1992 that the specific three-leaf clover with which we are now more familiar made its initial appearance.
Away days throughout the 1930s to the 1950s, meanwhile, saw the team habitually turn out in resplendent white reverse strips, which have been affectionately recreated for the modern Red Army.
Paying tribute to our heritage with a reproduction of McAlery’s famous newspaper advert that heralded the formation of Cliftonville FC, the shirts – provided in both Adult and Kids sizes – also sport our contemporary shamrock design on both the breast and nape of the neck.
You can order yours online right now or, if you’d prefer, you can make an immediate visit to The Reds Shop at Solitude, where the first 20 sales will be handed over in a special presentation box.
The Shop will be open from 9am until 1pm and then again from 2pm before closing shortly after this afternoon’s Premiership fixture.
