Condolences
Cliftonville Football Club are saddened to learn of the loss of former player Davy Hanna.
A physical centre forward of some repute, Davy made his Reds debut in a fixture with Distillery at New Grosvenor Stadium on March 31, 1984 and, a regular feature in our Olympic side until the 1985/86 season, opened his senior scoring account in a home game against Glentoran on January 25, 1986.
Serving under the management of Ronnie McQuillan and then Billy Sinclair, Davy made a total of 22 appearances for the Club and brought the curtain down on his Cliftonville career by marking his final appearance with a goal – his seventh in total – during a 1-1 draw with Glenavon at Mourneview Park on May 8, 1986.
Thereafter, he enjoyed rewarding spells with both Linfield and Portadown before emigrating to Canada in the late 1980s and then moving on to a new life in Melbourne in Australia, where he passed away peacefully from motor neurone disease earlier this week.
He is survived by wife Debra, daughter Tess, brother John and his mother Rosena, all of whom we extend deepest sympathies to, with further condolences offered to Davy’s family and many friends around the world.
