All systems Joe
Cliftonville will face Derry City in Joe Gormley’s Testimonial Match at Solitude on Sunday, July 6.
Organised by the Joe Gormley Testimonial Committee, tickets for the game are available online right now at a cost of £15 for Adults and £10 for Concessions, with supporters invited to pay tribute to the legendary service of the greatest goalscorer in the history of Ireland’s Oldest Football Club.
Gormley, who last week signed a contract extension some 14 years after joining the Reds from Crumlin Star, is also third on the Club’s all-time appearances list, having played in 527 games across two stints at Solitude.
After helping Cliftonville to successive Premiership titles, three League Cups and a County Antrim Shield success under Tommy Breslin, Joe The Goal was snapped up by Peterborough United in the summer of 2015.
Unfortunately, Gormley’s time with the Posh was hampered by injury and, following a brief loan spell with St Johnstone, he returned to Cliftonville ahead of the 2017/18 season – and wasted no time in picking up where he left off in front of goal.
Since then, he has added a further two League Cups, a County Antrim Shield and, of course, the Irish Cup to his collection and can now boast a full set of senior domestic honours with the Reds.
His exploits on BT14 and beyond have guaranteed him iconic status in perpetuity and, as he prepares to embark upon his ninth European campaign with Cliftonville, fans young and old will doubtless be keen to show their appreciation for everything he has done in that famous number 19 shirt – so grab your ticket today and be there when the Reds host the Candystripes this summer.
