A choice experience

Cliftonville Football Club were pleased to recently play a role in an educational project that saw 20 young men from the Shankill and Ardoyne community embark upon the trip of a lifetime to South Africa.

For the past 11 months, they have been part of the My Choice programme – a partnership between the Passionist Peace Office and RCity youth project, run by Father Gary Donegan and Brian McKee.

My Choice facilitates young men to explore the importance of making positive choices in life, and specifically looks at the consequences that follow on from anti-social activity. They worked together in the townships of Bonteheuwel, Cape Town and George in the Western Cape.

As well as working with young men in juvenile prisons and meeting families bereaved by gang violence, they also had lots of opportunity to show off their football skills and, sporting attire donated by Reds Kitman Brian Campbell, organised two football tournaments in the townships.

Games against Thembalethu FC and locals in the township of Pacaltsdorp both ended in draws and went to penalties, with one loss and one victory recorded.

Cliftonville Football Club are pleased to support the My Choice programme and commend all involved in last month’s noteworthy venture.
