Spark life

Jim Magilton says a collective effort amongst players and coaching staff can deliver the “spark” Cliftonville have been missing of late.

Hampered by a lengthy injury list – which saw Shaun Leppard’s name added to it during the weekend stalemate with Glenavon – the Reds head into this evening’s Sports Direct Premiership home game against Coleraine seeking a long overdue success, with Magilton calling on everyone to keep pulling in the same direction.

“I can recall many times where I’ve sat in dressing rooms and you’re trying to find answers,” he said.

“All you can do is encourage, trust and keep believing in what we’re doing. In situations like the one we’re in, it’s about looking round the dressing room and having a faith and a determination to play through it together.

“When I look at the personnel and the players we have that have served us so well, the shape is centred around individual ability and the group. Now we may have to look at something different to give us a spark.

“We changed things during the Glenavon game to try and give ourselves an opportunity to score a goal but just at the minute it isn’t happening for us.

“In this League, I’ve found there’s not an awful lot in the games, it’s just one or two opportunities that if you capitalise and get your nose in front then you can really kick on.

“At the moment, it isn’t happening for us. We have to keep working hard. The only way you get through this is with real determination to go and turn that around.”
