Right at home
Cliftonville Football Club extends thanks to everyone who made yesterday’s Seeking Solitude event such a resounding success.
A 7aSide competition for people from Belfast’s Black and Minority Ethnic background communities, the occasion allowed Ireland’s Oldest Football Club to send a message of unequivocal support and solidarity to those from other lands who have made our city their home and to people who have been the victims of racist abuse or who are living in fear because of the threat posed by an intolerant minority.
Featuring players, teams and representatives from Palestine, Nigeria, Somalia and Iran, we naturally congratulate the day’s winners and place on record our sincere thanks to The Sunflower Pub for sponsoring the tournament as well as offering gratitude to MCA Print and Bayview Media for their sponsorship of our referees.
As Ireland’s original football team, we know that the sport we love has been able to unite and bring together people of all faiths, ethnic backgrounds and nationalities, and – amid some typical Belfast weather conditions – we were delighted to welcome so many families along to our home ground to celebrate friendship through football.
