Sean a mission

Sean Stewart says Cliftonville are raring to do themselves justice when they begin their UEFA Conference League campaign tonight.

Latvian representatives Auda provide the opposition in the second qualifying round first leg tie at Solitude where, having seen other Sports Direct Premiership teams find the going tough on the continental scene in recent weeks, Stewart is determined to lay down a positive marker.

“I think it shows how difficult it is to win matches in Europe and how good the opposition are going to be,” he says of other results.

“Auda won their first round game and they are a decent team that will cause us problems. Hopefully we can do the League proud and hopefully get a win.

“It should be a great experience and one we worked hard for last year to get to this point. We just want to go out and play our football and try and do ourselves justice.”

You can read the full Stewart interview interview in this evening’s edition of our Matchday Magazine, which will be on sale at Solitude for £3.

Carrying Jim Magilton’s pre-match views from the Manager’s Office, this 40-page edition of The Red Eye – which will only be published on an occasional basis in the campaign ahead – reflects on Auda’s recent rise, sees Liam Murray pen the final glorious chapter of a heartbreaking 45-year-old tale and ponders the reintroduction of the old Cup Winners’ Cup format, plus plenty more besides.
