David’s playing for keeps

Cliftonville Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of David Odumosu.

The 22-year-old goalkeeper, who has been on loan at the Reds since the start of the season, has completed a transfer to Solitude as part of the cash-plus-player deal that has taken Luke Turner in the opposite direction to St Patrick’s Athletic, subject to international clearance.

Odumosu began his career with hometown side Dundalk and was part of the Drogheda United side that won the Airtricity League First Division title in 2020, when his performances saw him nominated for the SSE Airtricity/Soccer Writers Ireland Goalkeeper of the Year award.

A Republic of Ireland Under-20 international, who has also been a recent inclusion in Under-21 squads, Odumosu played Premier Division football for the Drogs before joining St Pat’s in 2021 ahead of commencing a loan spell with the Reds at the start of the current campaign, since when 12 clean sheets in 24 appearances have helped establish his position as a firm favourite with the Red Army.

As pleased as we are to have secured David’s signature, we are just as disappointed to confirm Turner’s departure after two-and-a-half years with Cliftonville, the Club having received offers that met contractual obligations.

Luke initially joined on loan from Aberdeen in the summer of 2021 before putting pen to paper on a contract 12 months later, having played a significant part in the team qualifying for Europe and lifting the BetMcLean Cup during a campaign that saw him win the Club’s Young Player of the Year award alongside similar accolades from the NI Football League and Football Writers as well as being named Ulster Young Footballer of the Year.

With five goals in 123 appearances for the Reds, Luke moves on with thanks and best wishes from everyone at the Club, sentiments we also direct at his parents, Joanna and David, who routinely trekked hundreds of miles to watch their son in action for Cliftonville and whose presence around Solitude will be missed.

We trust they will enjoy seeing Luke playing much closer to home during this next chapter of his career, but would reiterate that they will all always be very welcome at Solitude in the future.
