Magilton targets plus points

Assessing where you can improve in both victory and defeat is imperative to making progress, according to Jim Magilton.

Ahead of tomorrow’s Sports Direct Premiership trip to Coleraine, the Cliftonville boss insists the overall performance his team produced in last week’s unfortunate reverse against Linfield should fuel their confidence for the “huge” challenge that awaits at The Showgrounds.

“We have a huge game and we’ve dusted ourselves down,” says Magilton.

“There will be things that we will look at and know we can be better. There is no question about that, but that is every game. Even when you win well, you can pick the bones out of games.

“We will reinforce the positives. It was obviously a disappointing result last time out but it was a pleasing performance and one that the coaching staff have looked over and the positive vibes that we have created with those players and their beliefs is such that we will get ready for the weekend.”

Fewer than five weeks have passed since Cliftonville last locked horns with the Bannsiders and Magilton is well aware that tomorrow’s hosts will be fired up for revenge having shipped five goals at Solitude so recently.

“They won’t need any motivation,” he adds.

“Nor will we. We played well against Linfield and lost. Our motivation is to put that behind us and really put on a performance and try and get three points.

“It’s a tough game that we know Coleraine will be well up for, but the same applies to us.”
