Wilson strikes the write note

Congratulations to Ben Wilson, who has been named September’s Player of the Month by the NI Football Writers’ Association.

The striker scored six goals over the course of the month, netting in away days with Carrick Rangers and Crusaders before toasting doubles against both Ballymena United and Coleraine, and has hailed Jim Magilton’s influence in bringing him to Cliftonville.

“It’s nice to be recognised for scoring a few goals and helping the team,” says the 21-year-old, whose hat-trick against Dungannon Swifts yesterday means he’s already found the target four times in October.

“I couldn’t do this without my team-mates and I have to thank them.

“Jim’s been brilliant. I worked with him at Club NI and when he got in contact with me, I was really impressed by what he was trying to do, and I really wanted to play senior football. That was a big part of it and I’m really enjoying it at Cliftonville.”
