Carri a threat

Ronan Doherty says Carrick Rangers’ weekend exploits have not made Cliftonville any more wary of their threat – because they already rate tonight’s opponents highly.

The Reds’ defence of the League Cup continues with a second round tie against Stuart King’s side at Solitude just days after the Gers backed up their recent win over Linfield by going on a goal spree against Crusaders, but Doherty insists he and his team-mates would have been primed for a tough challenge regardless.

“Carrick are never, never easy – no matter what kind of form they’re in,” says the 26-year-old, who scored three goals against the east Antrim outfit last season.

“Especially after their win over Crusaders, it’ll be extra tough and they’ll come with belief.

“We need to keep our trophy and we’re looking for more big days out. We want to stay in every competition and try and win every competition. There is no reason why we wouldn’t want that, so this is a really big game.”
