Momentum of truth

Paddy McLaughlin says victory over Glenavon tomorrow would help generate further momentum for Cliftonville, but acknowledges that the task is much easier said than done.

The Reds boss is well aware of the Lurgan outfit’s qualities and was impressed with their performance against Coleraine last month and, as his side prepare for a return to Danske Bank Premiership action after a fortnight of Cup commitments, McLaughlin is steeled for a typically examining encounter.

“All Irish League games are tough,” he said. “They’re all different and bring their own challenges because every team brings something different.

“You’re tested every single week in this division and I don’t think anybody sees a trip to Mourneview Park as anything other than a serious test.

“On their day, Glenavon are as good as anybody and they proved that a few weeks ago when they went and won at Coleraine. They ran riot and were excellent going forward.

“It will be tough but we believe we’re building a bit of momentum and if we can keep that going, we’ve every chance of getting the win.”

Tickets for tomorrow’s game are available to buy online.

Supporters passing through the turnstiles close to kick-off are asked to be mindful that a pre-match minute’s silence will be held in memory of legendary former Glenavon striker Dennis Guy.
