Fit the build

Paddy McLaughlin says it’s important for Cliftonville to build on their weekend win when they tackle Dungannon Swifts tonight.

The Reds travel to Stangmore Park off the back of a 3-0 victory over Warrenpoint Town that saw the players answer the Manager’s demand for a more clinical approach – and he’s calling for more of the same against a Swifts outfit that may still be seeking their first win of the Danske Bank Premiership season but have kept clean sheets in each of their last two outings.

“I asked questions of our forward players after we lost to Glentoran in the County Antrim Shield last week and they stepped up with big performances against Warrenpoint,” explains McLaughlin.

“The boys defended very well too and we’re always hard-working in midfield, so it’s about making sure we keep combining all of those because that’s the only way to get results in this League.

“We’re expecting a tough game, like we always get at Stangmore, but we believe if we focus on ourselves and make sure we get our own performance right, we can come away with the points.

“We know we’re good enough and it’s about making sure we show that with more consistency.

“Dungannon’s last couple of results prove to us that they’re going to be resolute and hard to break down, so it might take a bit of patience on our part and that’s why it’s vital to take your chances when they come along in games like these. Saturday was an example of us doing that and we’ll be looking for more of the same.”
