Shield leader

Earlier this week, we marked 100 days since Cliftonville’s last match by asking supporters to nominate their highlights of the 2019/20 season so far.

With honourable mentions for the St Stephen’s Day Derby success over Crusaders at Seaview, the Reds’ four-match winning run across the festive period and the Irish Cup Quarter Final defeat of Dungannon Swifts, it’s little surprise that the County Antrim Shield Final was a popular choice among fans of all ages.

So today, 150 days since that sensational smash and grab against Ballymena United at Windsor Park, we’re turning the clock back to celebrate all over again.

Not that anyone needs any reminding but, trailing 1-0 in the depths of injury-time, Cliftonville levelled through Thomas Maguire’s 96th minute conversion before Ryan Curran’s 97th minute winner sealed the turnaround and brought the silverware back to Solitude for the first time in five years.

As well as our match report from the occasion, cliftonvillefc.net caught up with reaction from Manager Paddy McLaughlin, captain-for-the-night Joe Gormley, a delighted Conor McDermott and late goal heroes Maguire and Curran.

There is, however, nothing quite like sampling the Red Army’s roar when those dramatic strikes found the back of the net, so why not take the opportunity to sit back and enjoy BBCNI’s extended highlights of the action – assuming your nerves can handle it again?
