Toughing it out

Paddy McLaughlin believes Larne’s recent results point to a “tough” afternoon for Cliftonville tomorrow.

Though the Reds travel to Inver Park on the back of seven straight Danske Bank Premiership victories, the hosts are undefeated in their last four and have kept three consecutive clean sheets, having recovered from a run of four losses across various competitions.

McLaughlin does not believe that topping the table carries any extra pressure for his side at this stage of the season and is looking forward to the challenge that Cliftonville will face to stay there this weekend.

“It’s good to be top,” he says. “I’d rather be up there looking down, rather than the other way around.

“It’s a competitive League with so many teams that could take over top spot any week.

“We are just delighted to be up there with them. A lot can happen and a lot will happen over the coming months, so we are not getting too carried away with ourselves.

“Larne are a good side, which means another tough ask for us. Both teams like like to get the ball down and play a bit of football, so it should be an entertaining game for the fans.

“There are no easy games in this League as we saw last week when Warrenpoint beat Coleraine.

“Every game is tough and it will be no different against a good Larne team.”
