Shield leaders
Joe Gorman believes tonight’s County Antrim Shield clash with Knockbreda can serve the dual purpose of helping Cliftonville shake off their weekend disappointment and provide the first step on the road to silverware.
The Reds suffered a harsh 1-0 defeat to Linfield on Saturday and have an early chance to return to winning ways when they play host to the Bluefin Sport Championship’s bottom side.
“We’ve an opportunity to bounce back straight away,” explains Gorman.
“The expectations are high and pressure is there because we’re one of the biggest Clubs in Ireland.
“You’ve got no choice, you’ve got to play to win every trophy.”
You can read the full Gorman interview in this tonight’s edition of our Matchday Magazine, which will be on sale at Solitude for £3.
Featuring Paddy McLaughlin’s pre-match views, The Red Eye’s sixth issue of the campaign reflects on the history of the fixture and steps 109, 64 and 18 years back down memory lane – plus plenty more besides.
Our Matchday Magazine has attained a top-three position in the NI Football Programme Collectors’ annual awards poll for the last eight seasons – assuming the runners-up position on six of those occasions – so, if you’re not a regular reader, why not take a look at what you’ve been missing out on?
