Goal plated tribute

Joe Gormley says Tommy Breslin’s influence will continue to inspire him every time he pulls on a Cliftonville shirt.

The striker has started the new Danske Bank Premiership campaign in blistering form and, ahead of tomorrow’s North Belfast Derby clash with Crusaders at Solitude, the Reds’ all-time leading scorer is determined to keep honouring the memory of his former boss.

“Tommy brought me to the Club and I owe it all to him,” says Gormley.

“He’s the man that gave me the chance at Cliftonville and, after hearing the terrible news last week, I just wanted to show him a bit of respect. Every goal I score this year I’ll dedicate it to him.”

You can read the full Gormley interview in this weekend’s edition of our Matchday Magazine, which will be on sale at Solitude for £3.

Featuring coverage of significant development within the Club’s Academy, The Red Eye’s fourth issue of the campaign carries your first 2019/20 player poster and steps 51, 34 and 23 years back down memory lane – plus plenty more besides.

Our Matchday Magazine has attained a top-three position in the NI Football Programme Collectors’ annual awards poll for the last eight seasons – assuming the runners-up position on six of those occasions – so, if you’re not a regular reader, why not take a look at what you’ve been missing out on?
