Cliftonville 0-0 Newington
Cliftonville and Newington played out a dour goalless draw as pre-season concluded on a low key note at Solitude this afternoon.
The Reds once again handed gametime to a host of young talents but, despite bossing possession throughout, Paddy McLaughlin’s side were unable to get the better of their well-drilled opponents.
Jamie Harney saw a header cleared off the line in the only goalmouth action of note in the first-half while, after the interval, only a superb sliding challenge from Aodhfionn Casey stopped Thomas Maguire from stealing in on goal.
A deflected Ruaidhri Donnelly effort was turned behind for a corner before Calvin McCurry saw a header meet the same fate before the final opening of the contest came and went when Ronan Wilson’s bid to weave his way through a host of defenders failed at the final hurdle.
